So Christmas at my dad's is usually the same. My sister gets drunk, cries, tells me we have the best dad ever and I walk away. My brother, Danny, has a million new kids or something and likely a new girlfriend to go with them all. My brother, Dean, stays in the basement and doesn't say more they "Hey." My brother, Doug, calls from Washington and we talk about nerdy stuff.
This Christmas was fairly different. My dad's wife says "Oh, you've gained weight." as soon as I walk in. My brother, Dean, talks to me!!!!!!!! My brother, Danny, has a new kid!! He found out about this one after she had already turned 1. One night stand. Apparently the mother of this child was supposed to be at Christmas, but she wasn't. Neither was the child. I am now an aunt to 5 children of his, none of which I can keep up with. They don't know me at all and I don't know who is who. Kristen & Sam stopped by real quick (THANK GOD) and Danny said he couldn't leave the country, he'd end up having kids all over the world. It's freaky true. That man is fertile and definitely gets around. My sister isn't taking my father's calls because her son is busy taking a hammer to their house. He's like 15 too. What a train wreck. I didn't hear from my brother Doug. Ann called me Jessy which is my 10 yr old niece. How that woman doesn't get why I hate her is beyond me. My dad hates kids and gets stressed out so easily.
Oh and also my dad told me that even when I was a kid he knew I'd grow up to have a huge butt. :(

Haha my exboyfriend, Sean, and his friends made a Christmas song. It's actually surprisingly really good. You should all listen to it real quick. He raps in it and it is adorable.

| Summit for Someone |
[21 Dec 2009|10:43pm] |
Who wants to be the first person to donate to Big City Mountaineers' Summit for Someone program on my behalf? Well, you're going to have to fight over it!!! Here's the link.
I need to raise $4,000. It sounds like an awfully large number, but if all of my awesome friends could depart with just $5 then I'd easily reach the goal. How awesome is that--the power of collective action.
I know it's the holidays and everyone's budget is tight, but this money goes directly towards sending at-risk inner city kids on weeklong backcountry trips guided by volunteers. These kids would never know the lessons and joys of adventuring in the outdoors or what it's like to leave the city for a week without generous donations from people like you. You can help permanently change their lives for the better. They will learn about respect, discipline, trust, loyalty, dedication and friendship while hiking, backpacking, climbing, canoeing and camping in the outdoors. Again, the people guiding them will be volunteers and not paid staff.
You've got ten days left to make any charitable contributions in 2009 for the benefit of your taxes. Please consider giving on my behalf to Big City Mountaineers' Summit for Someone program. All of the donations directly fund the resources for the kids. It's a great organization that needs your help to make 2010 a great year for a whole lot of kids nationwide.

| Other peoples' 2009 Best Album picks |
[21 Dec 2009|09:19am] |
I find that I know a lot of people in bands and that make music their living, So I asked some folks what their favorite albums were this year. I have some feelers out for some more answers so I might add to this list. The biggest reason I ask is selfish, I want to find new music I don't know about , and I wasn't let down. Hope you dig this too.
Bob Nanna (Braid, Hey Mercedes): "ummm, i have a few options. well... i know i'm forgetting something but off the top of my head: owen - new leaves and dirty projectors - bitte orca, maybe sondre lerche - heartbeat radio phoenix - wolfgang amadeus phoenix yeah i think that's it."
Atom Andersen (Feable Weiner, Mondo Primo):"Metric "Fantasies" - that's an easy one. I also really liked the Mew ep they put out, i think that was this year"
Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Lagwagon): "Depends on the year.Just kidding. hmmm prob no exact single title. I liked Animal Collective. Malajube. Obits. We Are Wolves.experiences, so I could hear a record fr some years ago, or a song, and it might be the best experience of the year. plus shows, plus things I worked on, participated in, that's my musical world, and it's not easy to sum up plus it's hard not to nominate stuff I worked on, tho that's kinda weird looking.in another way, I'd have to put the Neil Young Archives on my list of best ones "
Todd Cambio toddd: "Probably the new lightning bolt record..."
Simon Leader (Hotel St. George): "Yo, er, apart from mine, Arctic Monkys latest"
Lance LaFave (Skydiver): "I'd have to think, or I might accidentally pick something from another year by accident, excuse the redundancy.hmmm there's not much to pick from for me, I haven't heard any albums I can think of where the whole album was right;usually spotty,I'd probably lose interest fast after hearing it, even if I like a few songs... that's how bad it has become for me"
Amanda Kirk nationofamanda:"the new avett brothers album"
O (fluf, Reeve Oliver): "yo gabba gabba's "music is awesome"!!!...hot"
AJ Machado (radio personality 94.1 FM in San Diego-AJ in the Mornings"): "mmm good question.I like One Block Radius a lot..James Morrison's album was good....still thinking.."
Eric Powers (Sloe, Careless Hearts):"hmm, I recently got into this band from Norway that I like alot. I was a King, they are called, sounds like Dinosaur Jr., with a chick, but I don't know, they are killer."
Jason Crane (Rocket from The Crypt, The Black Heart Procession): "wish i had one. always listening to stuff... just nothing stands out for me this last year....kind of like the cribs sound..."
Mario Jimenez (Stanford Prison Experiment): "whew, not listening to many albums but I loved some tunes off the new Neil Young, since in PR I listen to a lot of latin jazz. lots of cool folkloric music here." (Mario moved to Puerto Rico a couple years ago.)
Jeff Reese (Inch, Underminer): "I blame you= obits"
Derek See (Careless Hearts, Resplendent) "hmmmm lets see...did I even buy a new record in 2009??? Lee Fields!that was a good one. and San Jose's finest: Doctor Nurse!"
Dang Nguyen (Owner of Bar Pink): "Either Wooden Birds - Magnolia, or Thin Man - Flush With The Moon...they got the most plays. I think you'll like (Wooden Birds)...hints of Neil Young and You Am I."
Matty McLouglin (The Soft Pack/ The Muslims):"Kurt Vile.COnstant HItmaker"

Jesus, I wish that reality TV show about the kids competing to be an intern at Rolling Stone had continued. I'd love to see the kids with better musical taste than the editors at RS getting into debates over these sorts of bullshit lists that RS puts out.

this was at the bottom of the main driveway to my neighborhood. someone wrecked into the guard rail and they had to use the jaws of life to get them out and they blocked off a local elementary school so the person could be air-lifted to a hospital. there are cops cars and fire trucks EVERYWHERE fuck my mom is trying to get in and they won't let her. While I was down there I spoke to two teenagers, and it took me a minute to realize it was Andrew's younger brother and his step-sister. Then that made me feel a little weird. I hadn't seen Daniel since the funeral.

Here are my top 30 songs for the Year in Music 2009 project I'm doing with my friends. We ask for everyone's votes and then we tally them and make a mix cd based upon the results. While I wasn't completely blown away this year by any bands like I have been in years past, I did think there were some really strong albums this year and some bands that are pushing the boundaries in good ways. I'm really glad that I went to Bonnaroo this year because I saw a lot of the bands that made my YIM list and that's pretty cool. I also saw Sonic Youth for the first time, so being able to check them off of my "People to see before they die list" is a great accomplishment as well. Anyway, here's my list:

| Bring on 2010! |
[17 Dec 2009|02:12pm] |
|
Today is my last full day of work in 2009. I have to check in next week but most of my teammates will be out of the office an I took tomorrow off for Preston's vet appointment and my car inspection and Christmas shopping.
It's been a good year. I'm incredibly grateful to still have my job. To top off that thankfulness, we got a little surprise this morning at the staff meeting. The company exceeded $100 million in revenue in 2009, a first for us. It's a momentous occasion for an agency and a yardstick by which big agencies are measured. We also had an incredible profit margin, higher than the last two years. So they decided to spread the wealth a big. Can you say $1000 bonus? Aww yeah.
Now in addition to my regular duties on Alltel and seeing that transition through, I'm also putting together media ideas for Walmart, Pizza Hut and planning for Chobani Greek yogurt. I'm excited to see what 2010 holds.
Here's a video of what I think will be a leading change agent in the media world next year.
